Toni Kroos ffs They'll probably end up asking Scholes out of retirement again.

This.

Big signing sets the tone, makes other players take note etc.

Clubs didn't have huge squads in those days. You had about 2 subs and also the foreigner rules to contend with, both in the league and in Europe. Squad depth is another shit thing about the modern game.

Manchester United's hopes of signing Kroos has been boosted by Louis van Gaal telephoning the player personally, the two men got on so well at Bayern Munich when the Dutchman was in charge and the phone call pushed Kroos closer to a Bundesliga exit.
yeah, i can see that going down well with bayern, if true. if he goes now it'll most likely be madrid as they'll refuse to do business with us for that.

Bayern are bitches, but its their right to keep Kroos till his contract runs out. It will be amusing to see their reaction if Madrid try any funny business to try and force him out early.

If Van Gaal really wants him then now is the time to thrash out a deal for him to join us on a free next summer. We could offer a better deal financially than Madrid given they force players to give up 50% of their image rights. Could end up with a Rooney style

Which would be worth it given he is in terms of player quality, worth £40m-£50m in the current climate...

Especially when certain clubs buy squad players just to stop their rivals getting them. United at least don't indulge in that, tbf.

Couldn't care less. If van Gaal needed him he'd be a united player by now. He doesn't. We'll be ok.

Kroos: Real Madrid, Bayern, Barcelona and Manchester United. For me, these are the big four. #HalaMadrid
