should be a public right of appeal on this.

we've all seen referees doing analysis with TV pictures and realised that they're every bit as likely to make a mistake on that as they are out on the pitch.

who decides which incidents are looked at and which aren't?

Wasn't this introduced about 15 years ago and then forgotten about?

Alongside moving the ball forward at free kicks for dissent

Considering nobody really seems to agree on what diving actually is, I can't see any problems here.

It's a bit in the air innit

Simulation + No contact whatsoever?

There doesn't have to be any contact, at least not when Slippy gets a penalty.

Even then, its not unknown for people to genuinely lose their footing when trying to avoid someone.

You dive, get a guy sent off or a pen.....wins the game..then you're banned afterwards? Bet that will stop diving instantly.

Exactly.

It's a grey area. I don't really see how this helps other than dishing out bans for people who have dived and people who have been fouled.

At least reinforce it by awarding penalties to players when they stay on their feet. Half the time, it's players exaggerating contact because they know they wont get it unless they're seen going to ground.

Sounds simple, but even that has its grey areas. How many times do players hurdle an onrushing keeper, there's no contact but the defence is that the player took 'evasive action' to avoid getting clattered.

Then there's exaggerating contact. Is that a dive? He touched him.

It's not an easy one imo and there's more ambiguous instances than cut and dried ones.

Hopefully it's mainly reserved for the scandalous ones where they pretend to have been punched and clutch body parts that were untouched.

Just falling over or leaving a leg dangling is the grey area.

Well, given that a number of former pros don't actually have a clue about this, I ain't holding out much hope for a fair & just implementation.

When you have dribbling mongtards like Robbie Savage saying that if it's not a foul/penalty then it must a dive, you wonder just how/why this @#%&! ever got a job on TV.

It's not a £#%&!ing binary choice. There's a third possibility - contact was made, the player went down but it wasn't a foul or a dive - so just play on.

The way this is going, the game will be a completely contactless sport soon.

Spot on. There's very few aspects of it that everyone agrees and there's a spectrum of offences and non-offences..

Diving is very much in the "you know one when you see one" category, its frustratingly hard to define on paper.
