Default Potentially Great Players Who Never Fulfilled Their Potential

I'll start with a very controversial one - Ronaldo. (Fat Ronaldo)

Yes, he won two World Cups, European trophies, many league titles and domestic cups in countries around the world, not to mention breaking the World Cup goalscoring record, () BUT I think he could have been one of the greatest ever instead of just one of the most gifted of his generation.

Feel free to add more - obvious and controversial.

Alessandro Del Piero.

Whe he came on the scene in the mid 90s he looked like a genuine world great in the making. He was at the right club who had a great team at the time, everything he needed. Then he £#%&!ed up his knee and was never the same player.

The obvious one is Gascoigne.

Lee Sharpe was never going to be world class but he should never have ended up playing in the lower leagues at such a young age.

Denilson. All the talent in the world, but incapable of playing for the team.

Dragan Stojkovic. One of the most talented players of the 1980s, then he moved to Marseille and had his career wrecked by injuries.

Del Piero. Absolutely outstanding until he £#%&!ed his knee, never been the same since.

Kluivert. Looked like the total package at Ajax.

Magico González,. Phenomenally gifted, but more committed to partying than football. I've heard he's now a taxi driver in his native El Salvador.

Diego Latorre. The first "new Maradona". Looked fantastic at Boca, then went to Fiorentina and disappeared off the face of the earth. Now a pundit.

Harry 'Manchester United are finished' Kewell.

Me too, Ronaldo's OK, but he has not got a sumo haircut and a cool wrist tattoo
