Default Manchester United announce record revenues of £590m

Quote:
Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward says record-breaking revenues for 2018 demonstrate "continued strong, long-term financial performance".

United brought in a record £590m over the year ending 30 June 2018 - and are expecting revenues to rise to between £615m and £630m over the coming financial year.

However, the club's operating profit of £44.1m is down from £80.8m last year, due in large part to the US federal corporate income tax rate being reduced from 35 per cent to 21 per cent.

Net debt rose 19.1 per cent to £253.7m, which the club say is predominantly down to exchange rate fluctuations.

And United paid out £295.9m in wages across the board for the 2017/18 season, an increase of £32.4m from the previous year.

The accounts say this is "primarily due to player salary uplifts related to participation in the UEFA Champions League", although Alexis Sanchez's January arrival will also have made an impact.
£32m wage increase is what Sanchez has probabaly been paid already...

Quote:
United remain about £90m ahead of neighbours Manchester City in terms of revenues - the Premier League champions posted a record figure of £500.5m for 2017/18.

Woodward said: "Everyone at the club is working tirelessly to add to Manchester United's 66 and Jose's 25 trophies. That is what our passionate fans and our history demands.

"We are committed to our philosophy of blending top academy graduates with world class players and are proud that, once again, last season we had more academy graduate minutes on the pitch than any other Premier League club.

"Our increased revenue expectation for the year demonstrates our continued strong long-term financial performance which underpins everything we do and allows us to compete for top talent in an increasingly competitive transfer market."
Yeah, right.

Madness that they can get away with sponsoring themselves, financial doping taken to another level,

City along with PSG have more or less ruined the game, transfer fees, wages, there was a time when teams with a rich history, and put in the hard work through the years on the pitch got the rewards, then these £#%&!ers come along and start spending money like it is going out of fashion, the Neymar deal was madness, and I bet City are paying huge under the counter money to their players, all the other clubs spending silly money just to try and keep up,, how can a team like City who cannot even sell out their stadium on match days say they are getting that much legit sponsorship, it that was us their would be all sorts saying how unfair it is and big bad Utd ruining the game of football yet these @#%&!s get a free pass..

PR charm offensive by the abu dhabi lot which has worked a treat. The press think they're wonderful because they turn up at the Etihad on match days and it's like utopia for Journalists. You'll never get a bad word about the place if it's not someone like Duncan Castles or Matthew Syed. The rest all spend their time worshipping Guardiola like he's some sort of messiah.

Basically City have cheated another legitimately run club out of a top 4 finish every season since 2011.

Though as I said recently, there are signs some hacks are transferring their slavish uncriticality to Liverpool now

What exactly do they mean by "share sales" here and why is it a large cost to the club ?

I take it as shares sold and then pocketed by the Glazers, instead of selling of shares and then using the money to invest in the stadium they instead use the money for their other buisness.

Neymar endured a disappointing summer at international level at the World Cup in Russia, painted as the villain after Brazil exited the competition at the quarter-final stage for his theatricality and lack of care in possession.

I was wondering about the not "net debt" figure. YHGR

Interest and fees = reduced tax

I'd assume the share sales was a note to the accounts imo
