Why does Venables live in an empty hotel? Can imagine him as Basil Fawlty.

And what dodgy dealing cost him the England job?

so much to answer for, that programme. Pretty much everything that's gone wrong in the world since then can be traced back to it.

Teddy looks about 5 days older from 96. Gazza on the other hand...

It's just that they never grow up. Developmentally they're stuck at about 16.

Lots of weird little details in there, but that one is near the top.

Shearer and Teddy do a lot of backtracking about drinking during the tournament, don't they?

Another tournament where England's performance was overrated when you actually break it down

Swiss - draw
Scotland - win
Holland - win

Spain - draw
Germany - draw

That was an enjoyable tournament though, remember reading before it Zidane was the player to watch for France and he may as well have not went.

Davor Sukers goal at Old Trafford was

Jaap Stam was there as an unused sub!

opening match I got paralytic that night at the school disco, aged 13. Scenes.

It was a good tourney from my point of view,I did Russia v Germany and that Italy v Germany game above. Then the Croatia v Germany quarter. All at OT of course,I remember you couldn't give away the Czech v France semi, spares all over the shop. I lost a few bob on one coz I picked up a England ticket last minute.
Anyway down to Wembley for the semi and final. I was sick to death of Germany at the end but really enjoyed the quarter and semis. Both good games.

Enjoyed the whole tournament upto the final.

The whole stadium(the real Wembley and not that shit concrete bowl that now sits on the site today)singing along to the 3 loins song pre match at the semi was top.

We should realy have won this
