Thought this was great. Was hoping for a lengthy doc rather than a series but I guess it's something to look forward to. Wasn't expecting hooliganism to have a full episode. That twist ending ffs

Tony Evans has some balls on him. Going to make a coffee and look him up on twitter.

Scouse mentalist

Heysel wouldn’t have happened if the stadium had been up to scratch

No Tony, heysel wouldn’t have happened if drunken scouse bastards hadn’t charged across the terraces into Italian fans

Mainline nostalgia

Was 7 and didn't care for the standard of football

The standard of kits, the last World Cup without sanitised stadiums, the proper characters in each team , so many night games. The whole Cameroon underdog thing was a buzz even at 7. Got me into playing for a club. Just utter drool aots

not like a dipper to try and deflect the blame elsewhere.

think the ireland game got swept under the carpet somewhat. didn't even show Sheedy's strike.

Oh come on Funners, that stadium was appalling, string fences and terraces that broke under your feet that people threw at each other and obviously walls that just fall down. Why big games were ever played there is beyond me, it was trouble waiting to happen.

Not sticking up for the skaus, but it was always on top with Juve.

Same. Felt like a lightning strike moment. I was glued to everything. Punted about four of the mini coke footballs onto the school roof (worth a bit now) and cried like a baby when England got knocked out and Nessun Dorma played on the TV.

Mini coke balls , yes!

Peak des lynam, the TV fonts, proper interviews with managers who didn't hide away for two weeks, even a decent mascot brand thing...

Think the proset (?) stickers go for 20 each these days

That it?

Blew it's load on the first episode then just became a highlight of England's games. Poor.

82 (first I remember) and 86 were great. 90 was a bag of £#%&! football wise but it was a turning point for sure - the game being adopted by the middle classes, post Hillsborough, all seater stadiums then later Fever Pitch and Fantasy Football with Baddiel and Skinner etc.

The best thing in Italia 90 was the needle in the Germany v Holland game, specifically Voeller v Rijkaard. Pure venom.

You really have to wonder how much mystique they can bleed out of that tournament now
