What did he do with Wales? Very good player on his day, like I say, but not sure how doing half-decent with an international team during what has been overall an awful era for the national sides is anything to write home about. England got to a final last year, and they’re rubbish.

Then when he was with the big boys in Madrid he was maybe their sixth or seventh best player during his best seasons there. Ronaldo, Benzema, Kroos, Modric, Ramos and even Iker Casillas were all better/more important for Madrid.

Maybe he had a few top class moments…

Have you been drinking mate?

Casillas wasn’t even Real’s first choice keeper anymore during Bale’s first season there, he started 2 league games. That’s Bale’s first season for the 2nd biggest club in the world, where he scored 22 goals and 16 assists in 44 games from the wing, as well as scoring a late winner against Barca in the Copa Del Rey final, and an even later winner in the Champions League final against Atletico.

Maybe Casillas did contribute more though, who knows

Fair enough re: Casillas, for some reason I thought he was their first choice keeper for a few more years.

Point still stands in regards to the rest of the players. Also worth noting Bale never came close to hitting the heights of his first season there again.

A good player who did well for himself, but will only be remembered as world class by fans from Wales imo.

I think never came close is very debatable? Statistically he topped his debut season a couple of times, and in one of those seasons he scored 2 goals in a Champions League final, one of which is generally regarded as one of the greatest goals of all time in a European Cup final. Not bad tbh for someone who wasn’t World Class.

He never topped it statistically did he? I just looked it up and he never topped the total amount of goals he got in the 13/14 season (all competitions). Didn’t check for assists.

All you need to know about bale is the fans of his own club wanted him gone . This wasn’t a 2-3 month thing , for years they wanted him gone.

Quality player , but never world class. Would walk into the United squad of the last 10 years though.

Bale has been excellent since his second season at spurs. Needs another thread obvs but has quite clearly been world class for the majority of his career

Tbf Bale was a skinny runt at 19 too, but always played like a cross country runner.

Hopefully Fernandez isnt too slow for the Prem.
