"Asterios Polyp" by David Mazzucchelli was a worthy read and enjoyable and uplifting.

"Jimmy Corrigan: the Smartest Kid on Earth" by Chris Ware. Strange and kinda depressing book but has it's plaudits.

"Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapie, is lovely and sad - life growing up in pre /post revolutionary Iran.

"Ichabod Azrael" by Rob Williams is funny, smart and pretty meta western set in hell. Collected story from 2000AD.

"The Great War" by Joe Sacco, who does journalistic reportage from war zones in comic form. This is a series of double-page tableaus that tells the story of the Battle of the Somme without words - looked spectacular in the bookshop though I'm not sure I'd actually buy it.

They are okay. A bit like sandman... excellent if they are up your street, meh if not.

I read the early ones (20 - 30 issues) then stopped tbh and never had any desire to reread.

Sidenote: The Dark Night Returns is one of my favs

EDIT: IGNORE me.. I read your post as Hellblazer (John Constantine)

The Alien comics were decent enough ,More space marines which is what I wanted

Chuck Palahniuk's follow up to Fight Club only came out as a comic and set 10 years later

Used to love Dark Horse Comics as a kid.

Loads of standalone Alien, Predator & Terminator stories.
Plus random crossovers, like Predator Vs Batman, Terminator Vs RoboCop and of course Alien Vs Predator.

Think I might still have them stashed in the attic

Staying down in Brum for 4 nights on training course week before Christmas.

Frankfurt Christmas Market on New St & Nostalgia Comics a few hundred yards from my hotel.

Think there will be some splurging in the comic book shop.
