Smile Change

Can anyone (not reem) give me some of their (eloquently, please) opinions on the ways football has changed in the last 30 odd years? And opinions of this change and shit.

Maybe with a bit of focus on the influence of business? Or football as a culture? That kind of thing.

Probably get laughed at, but any genuine replies would be much appreciated.

Cheers in advance. Its for uni btw.

Football's more of a business these days, with the money from Sky etc coming into the game, and clubs being more structured to cope with the world of business, rather than just being a simple "football club". These days, honourable as it may seem, you can't run a football club as you did 30 years ago, the world's changed, business has changed, everything's changed a lot.

Of course a consequence of that is teams going into Administration because they can't cope with escalated demands. As well of the instability of things like ITV Digital years ago. You have to be so careful in the running of a club these days.

In a word, money. Look back even to the 2000-2001 season and Ipswitch town with piss all money managed to stay in the Champions league places until the last match of the season, that would never happen today.

The culture of football has changed as a direct result of an increased influence by business

There's more black and foreign players. I'd maybe write a thesis about how it's their fault.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Do you go to matches? Or did?

All seater stadiums, foreign ownership, more foreign players, higher wages, change in styles of play, clubs as plc.'s, tv money.
