FERGIE `DISAPPOINTED` AT ROO EXERTIONS

Barclays Prem Top Goalscorer 09/10: Rooney, W. 2/7

Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his disappointment that Wayne Rooney played almost the entire game for England against Egypt on Wednesday.

Ferguson left Rooney out of his Manchester United starting line-up for Sunday's Carling Cup final because he was worried about the draining effects the Wembley pitch would have on his star man ahead of a busy club schedule, including next Wednesday's Champions League return with AC Milan at Old Trafford.

As Rooney picked up a minor knee injury at the weekend, Ferguson was unsure whether the 24-year-old would be available for the final Three Lions game before Fabio Capello picks his provisional squad in May.

However, not only did Rooney play, he was only taken off in the final stages of England's 3-1 win and is now a doubt for United's encounter with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday when victory will take them top of the table.

Although it is not thought Ferguson is attaching any blame to Capello, he is clearly not happy.

"We have to assess Wayne because he played almost 90 minutes for England the other night at Wembley, which I was disappointed in," said Ferguson.

"When you are playing on that pitch for almost an hour on Sunday and then nearly a full game on Wednesday it's far too much.

"Now he is a doubt for Wolves."

rooney needs a rest, it was clear fergie wanted to rest him against villa but was forced to bring him on, then the £#%&!ing england friendly. berbatov and diouf against wolves should be fine.

Rooney will play some part.

Tbf, we should be able to sweep Wolves aside without him.

Let's be honest, Wolves are shite. We should be able to beat them with Prunier, Djemba-Djemba and Forlan.*

*I realise Forlan has done well in Spain but he was shite for United.

Really??

VDS

Evra
Vidic
Evans
Rafael

Nani
Carrick
Fletcher
Scholes
Valencia

Berbatov

...the lack of strikers problem is certainly coming home to roost.
Berbatov impressed at Wembley with his touch & hold-up play, but we need goals from him tomorrow.

I would yes. Be interesting to see a new pairing like that with Berb's linking between the midfield and Diouf's pace and tbh I wouldn't go with Berbatov as a lone strike with the lavck of goal threat that midfield might have.

Fair enough. Good point actually.
Without Giggsy in particular we look really short of goals & creativity from centre mid.

Not sure I've seen enough of Mammers to know if he's good enough or not, but there's only one way to find out.

Going to have to throw Diouf in at some point, may as well do it tomorrow, probably should've done it at home to Hull or someone really.
