Nobody is trying with less than a week to go. Going through the motions at best.

Cracking article on the Beeb:

France: Fear, Faith and Football

Long read, helpfully has many pictures. Is well worth tackling though, the thought that sport - and football specifically - is a unifier is probably never more true than the 1998 World Cup, the state of France today I sort of hope that they prevail again (England winning it would be a great piss up, but let's be £#%&!ing realistic )

Also new injury problems for Germany:

Quote:
Germany defender Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out of Euro 2016 after tearing cruciate knee ligaments in training on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old was taking part in the squad's first session at their base in France when he suffered the injury.

"A decision on a new player has yet to be taken," said a Germany statement.

The absence Rudiger, who plays for Roma in Serie A, is a blow with fellow centre-back Mats Hummels not fully recovered from a leg muscle injury.

Germany had arrived at their tournament base in Evian only hours before Rudiger was injured.
Harsh.

As said not much of a betting type myself, so wouldnt know if its any good - or if he's got USP or not - but he's put a lot of work and cash into the idea and he's hoping these euros will see if it's got legs or not.

Have a go, if so inclined.

I suspect that Marine le Pen would do a better job of feigning enthusiasm for a multicultural French team winning it than her dad did 18 years ago

There's a decent amount of info in the article re. Le Pen & his popularity (& how it dropped significantly in the aftermath of the '98 World Cup win)

Then again, he made it to the final round of the presidential election just four years later - so it was hardly a knockout blow unfortunately

Recommend the article, it's a 10min job but hardly taxing. Really interesting to chart the fortunes of their national side & the way the tolerance fluctuates politically.
