Almost invariably cited as "his greatest achievement" today. Not sure if even Wenger himself thinks that tbh.

Also keep hearing that he "revolutionised english football" which, again, is an absolute load of shit. Yes, he revolutionised one club but what exactly did he do to English football?
Nailed it there, sparkles.

Well I for one like the idea of an Arsenal resurgence.

Their fans are insufferable when things go well for them yes but the league needs it to lift the overall standard at the top.

It’s £#%&! seeing teams like Liverpool and City playing arsenal knowing there’s a fair chance they will wallop them.

That was always glossed over. Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Keown, Winterburn was the best back 4 unit in English football at the time. True he did unearth one of the bargains of all time in Vieira and he deserves credit for that. But come on. He inherited a squad with the best defensive unit, dennis bergkamp up front as well as Ian Wright.

Wasn't Vieira already there too?

Really not sure that argument holds weight given they were an even better side with Cole, Campbell, Toure and Lauren at the back.

He's always been a touch overrated in terms of his achievement, but no need to blur the lines between the last few years and what he did earlier on. Arsenal's decline started when they withdrew the money and sold their best players to other teams in England.

Wenger held the place together well for a long time. The last 2-3 years have really been where he's looked a jaded force.

What is his record ?

No European Cups, 3 League titles and 7 FA cups ?

It's a good record, but nothing in comparison with Fergie

Agreed, but i'd bet that in two years from now Albert, Arsenal fans will be whining about Wenger's replacement.

The three league titles is a bit of an unfair measure. He probably has more second places, where we won it, than wins. It's a bit like our EC final losses to Barca. Without Fergie,Wenger would have been the outstanding manager of that era with perhaps nearer 8 or more league titles

Not just Fergie. Up until the last five years it was common to see Wenger's name on these Greatest Manager of All Time lists

Always ridiculously over the top, but no doubt he's been great for the British game, especially from a stylistic point of view. Talk of revolutionising the game is dramatic because most of the other clubs/managers didn't change, but I think he did make Fergie evolve.

He's done a decent job but it's always been massively exagerrated by a press that seemed to have a massive blind spot about him.

A couple of years ago on Sunday Supplement, all the panel agreed that criticism from fans that Wenger and the club see top 4 as success was bang out of order, because before Wenger they were absolutely nowhere near top 4.

Bruce Rioch's Arsenal finished 5th on goals scored the year before Wenger arrived.

Not to mention, “top 4” wasn’t an actual thing when he took over. It’s the last 15 years or so that the Champions League has become something clubs based their whole business model around.

This.

If he’d retained the title or won a champs league, maybe it wouldn’t have bern so over the top.
