This. The manager still has to choose the transfers. Fergie and busby would never have accepted a job where they didn’t have that power.

Real Madrid have asked to be kept informed of three Manchester United players' movements ahead of the summer transfer window.

Si Senor Woodward, €50 million for Pogba's turdito's and €125m for Senor De Gea's.

Dirty Spanish bastards

2 players in their early 20's and the best keeper in the world for a left winger who's worldy but made of brittle glass, Modric who's knocking 33 and Toni Kroos. If Woodward considers that a good deal we really really need a director of football.

We should make them an offer for Kroos if they want rid though.

Reading that interview with butt the other day on united’s academy, it seems the club have done what I’ve wanted for a while and split the first team manager’s job from the rest of the club. Nicky Butt is effectively the general manager of Manchester united. In control of every team besides the first team and seemingly not answerable to the first team manager. Which is the director of football type job I wanted in all but name.

Cracking news if that’s the case. Good to see Nicky Butt doing well too

Definitely like the idea when the alternative is Woodward but it seems like the easiest job I'm the world. There are half a dozen lads here who could recommend quality players who aren't at big clubs. Don't get how it's supposed to be some crucial job that we can't possibly cope without.

Yes we badly need one of these £#%&!ers. Knowing how we're run doh, they'll probably walk away within a year after it's clear we have no ability to negotiate unless its for turds nobody wants

Do these guys actually deal with the selling club or will it still be Ed Goldbridge ?

Won’t matter a £#%&! who comes in if Ed is more interested in a player’s marketing ability than what he can do on the pitch .

Though the buck ultimately stops with the last three managers for poor results/non-existent style of play there is some mitigation with respect to the players that were purchased for each of them. It wouldn't hurt to have continuity on the playing side nor consistency with the profile of manager so we are not ripping everything up every few seasons.

The two issues are 1) will the new guy have the authority to implement the above and 2) what style of play should we even try to attempt?

Any, so long as the intent is to try and win with style.

Winning with style has to be the ultimate goal, I'm just curious as to what people actually want to see. Wingers, Tikki-Takka or some freestyle high-press with attacking intent?

We're not signing a DOF, unless it's somebody with no professional integrity, willing to look an absolute @#%&! and see his recommendations go down the toilet every other year.

That guy ^ looks like he fits the bill.
