the CL final still sounds shivers down my spine.

the fa semi, was a dramatic game as i can think of in a match that had a huge amount riding on it.

Had the pen gone in (what a span of emotions pip must have gone through in the space of 90 seconds) we may have spazzed the lot.

I wasn't in Barcelona so that semi-replay was one of the greatest nights of my life. I think it's one of the reasons i don't get as excited about football as I used to. Nothing could top those few weeks.

at the time in the stands (or more accurately two hours later rolling about the ramblas) I thought no.

I still do, although anything is possible with the team we are assembling right now.

Juve away for me. 2-0 down, won 3-2.

I knew we'd win the European Cup then. I didn't expect it to be as dramatic as that though!!!

I never tire of watching the highlights of that game. In fact, I got goosebumps watching it then.

Yes it was. Their fans didn't deserve a team like that. They were pathetic at Villa Park.

There are genuinely half a dozen + games from that season that bring tears to my eyes!
It will never be repeated...or at least, never repeated in that rollercoaster style (you tend to forget how close we were to doing it last season )

My Top5 games from 1998/99:

5) United V Spurs at Old Trafford (I have NEVER felt more physically sick with nerves before & during a game. The last ten minutes were unbearable)

4) Juve V United (2nd leg Semi Final. Keano was immense)

3) United V Liverpool (FA Cup. Ole stoppage time winner at Stretford End! Cue utter chaos!)

2) United V Arsenal (FA Cup Semi Final Replay. Greatest game of football I've ever seen)

1) United V Bayern Munich (Champions League Final. It will never be bettered)

the whole season is ridiculous, a colleague of mine recently kindly transfered the treble vid onto DVD for me - from the liverpool fa cup game on, if it was written as a film script you'd think it was unplausable.

The role "luck" plays in and amongst huge amounts of skill can not be under emphasised.

You need lots of factors to all come into play like that to happen

the huge influence subs had throughout the season, but notably

-> Cole on v Spurs
-> Sheringham on in FA CUP
-> Teddy and Ole in the CL Final

do we have the bench to do that now?

Smikes starfish save v Milan
Berg on the line in the same game
Smikes lucky not to conceed a pen at San Siro IMO
JUVE battered us in the first hald at home
Offside correctly being given against Anelka

we were good - but one decision or incident not going your way in any given game can £#%&! the whole lot

made the point earlier in the thread, had Arse won the semi, what might we have won, and what might they have won, tight margins.

Default giggs's run for the winner in the semi

was like watching a drop of water running down a window pane. there is no finer sight in football.

can't help thinking schmeichel would have saved it, though. :0)

Sheringham was massive in the last 2 games, 2 goals and 2 assists brilliant.
