Interesting article if true, kind of makes the implication that we might become a selling club.
On the other hand, how much is this is really a departure from the way we've done things? In the last 30 years our record payments have always been for young players with plenty of career ahead of them - Robson, Pallister, Keane, Rooney, Ruud, Stam, Rio, Veron - and only Yorke and Berbatov seemed to have been bought at their very peak. Yes we overpaid for Rio but we'll probably get 10-12 years out of him. But with Yorke we got a treble, Ruud we got great service and a league and £10m, and Veron...well..erm...£15m. |
