Alderweireld, Matic, Sanchez and Willian all turn 30 next season. It's not typical Fergie-esque building.

Aye. He started off buying the likes of viv Anderson, mal donaghy, Ralph milne, Steve Bruce. Almost like he just bought what he considered were good enough players needed at the time. Or maybe experienced, solid pros that would be a good influence on an unruly, undisciplined dressing room. He certainly didn’t build his short/medium term aspirations around youth. No manager does because you have to survive long enough and gain the power to do that.
I recall the slagging off he got for dropping all the Fergie fledglings once the experienced pros came through their injuries. Didn’t give a shit about how excited the fans had become by the young players. Barely saw any of them ever again. Straight back to dull, supposedly reliable football at the first opportunity. I’m sure you’d have been there slagging him off for not giving the youth the chance they deserved and betraying United’s tradition. He’d never get united.

Yeah. What’s the mystery?
Evra was hardly unknown as the Monaco left back. Was clearly class for them. Ronaldo, one of the highest rated and most sought after young players in Europe. Christ, even magazines like world soccer were lauding him in articles. I was desperate for United to sign him, and it would have been hugely incompetent If we hadn’t, given our links to sporting at the time. Carrick, a top young english midfielder. Maybe to you they were total unknowns, but it would have been worrying if a club like united hadn’t had them as targets. You’re just showing your own apparent cluelessness.
