Cool Why are we sentimental? Because we can remember how awesome this side was

1. Alex Stepney
2. Jimmy Nicholl
3. Arthur Albiston
4. Sammy McIlroy
5. Brian Greenhoff
6. Martin Buchan (c)
7. Steve Coppell
8. Jimmy Greenhoff
9. Stuart Pearson
10. Lou Macari
11. Gordon Hill
12. David McCreery

What a team.

Bet most of the experts on here weren’t even alive when a football team had 12 players in.

I started going to games in '75, so that team is pretty much the one I grew up with.
Gordon Hill was my favourite player. 'Pancho' a close second.
It was a great time to support United.

indeed they were. but it's more that "everyone" associates fairclough with the moniker. mccreery was just someone who wasn't good enough. fairclough came on and made an impact. fairclough was a supersub; mccreery was a sub. soz.

Definito

McCreery was an honest toiler whereas that ginge @#%&! saved them time after time off the bench. Never put in the shift like McDermott etc but knew where the back of the net was when he came on.

I've just looked at Dave Mccreery's stats, you're right, he actually played a lot more games for Newcastle than us. It's strange how my memory has become distorted with time.

Fairclough absolutely hates the supersub tag.
