Even winning the league didn’t seem to ignite anything amongst their fan base. It’s just a damp squib. That comes from the sense it wasn’t earnt by their own efforts through the years. They’re just hanging on someone’s coat tails. United’s fan base exploded in 93, because it was built through work the club did and the success belonged to us.

It's just hype. We've had it. Arsenal had it. Chelsea had it. Liverpool had it. It comes with the territory of the media being completely in the moment and trying to categorise and term everything, with no degree of wisdom gained from watching years of football.

Always more equivocally and grudgingly than the other teams you mention, though. And in a way that doesn't bother me - the media (in football as other things) is mostly know-nothing scum.
