Erm he managed Keane and Beckham for about 10 years each, during which United had their most succesful period in its history. I'd suggest as such thispoint isquite frankly bullshit.

Id agree especially on the Keane front.I dont think any other manager in the world could have man managed Keane or Cantona like Fergie managed.

Also the way he protected Giggs,Scholes etc from the media when they first came on the scene was different class.

Oh and he also bought Rooney wich for me is our biggest coup.

Yes he did well to snatch him from the claws of Newcastle

And he did alright managing Eric...

Another pro - Fergie's ruthlessness - apart from Stam, he knows when to call time on players...

He handed in a transfer request and only wanted to sign for us. We paid £27M for him.

Have to agree. Beckham was a great Utd player until he bought into his own hype and prioritized England and publicity over Utd. Keane was kept for too long and retired 6 months later anyway, after savaging a group of players who look likely to land us the league this year. Ruud was a hindrance to progression in our style of play.

Beckham and Ruud were perfectly valid football decisions.

The Keane situation is one of Fergies failings. He gave him too much importance and failed to secure a qulaity replacement which left us structuring a team around Keane which held us back 2 years.

He apologised to the Glazers for the behaviour of his own supporters.

simply listing everything united have achieved under him would be a pretty pointless exercise, so i've tried to list his positive and negative qualities, as a manager.

pros
brilliant at nurturing youngsters
excellent man manager (on the whole)
focuses/d on building a club rather than just a team
has a winning mentality
gets the best out of potential problem players
good motivator
always defends his players in public
understands what manchester united means

cons
is still tactically inept compared to some other managers
occasionally loses focus on football matters
proved himself to be a hypocrite on several occasions
has let personal feelings sometimes impinge on what is best for the club
made several costly errors in the transfer market

to be honest the only valid reason people might dislike fergie was his backing of the Glazers which was at times a bit hard to stomach. I understand his reasons but I think he could've done it in a different manner - especially considering his supposed socialst sympathies.

That's the only slight damage to his persona IMO. He's still a great.
