It could be the announcement of the attendance. It could be a call for someone to return to their car. It could be the half time reading of a totally meaningless score in a division two clash between Hartlepool and Shrewsbury. No matter what, someone will cheer it, jeer it or have their God-damn say on it for no other reason than a ridiculous Pavlovian response to hearing a human voice over a loud speaker. Makes me crawl in my seat. Seething for the rest of the game. I want them dead.

I do remember a story of a game in the 80s where the PA guy said 'There is a black Lada Riva with its lights on.' The entire stand went dead silent, until finally someone said, 'Nobody is going to own up to that.'

When Portugal got that last minute equaliser last night the camera focussed on the crowd and there's Chad Hogan and his mates whooping and waving like it's spring break. @#%&!s.
