Wasn't he in the running for the United job when Fergie announced his retirement the first time?

Or was it merely something I thought might happen rather than actually being a possibility?

Some would suggest he'd pretty much got the job, and United obviously had to go back to him when Feral decided to go on.

Ploughed Ulrika in her prime (iirc). I’d be happy with that achievement

Nice guy, top £#%&!ger, guided City to a superb 8-1 drubbing at Middlesbrough.

What's not to like?

Fergie was dead against Sven replacing him, iirc?

Only lost 3 competitive games as England manager. Seems a decent bloke. Sad news.

Yep - seems like a good bloke. Always sad to hear, hope he has a while left - he certainly has the means to enjoy what time he does have.

Was often reported at the time that part of the reason he changed his mind is he didn't want Sven taking over

What would we all do different given a year to live diagnosis?

Anyone to make peace with, or perhaps better, enact calculated revenge?

Might spur you on to do that grand larcenry you've been thinking about for a long time

I wonder why he hated him so much? Must have something to do with United players on international duty.

Sven had only been in the England job about a year at that point though, could understand if it was Wenger who was taking over but Sven seemed pretty innoffensive. Imagine reversing a decision to retire in part because you don't like the person taking over your old job?! Ferg
