Thumbs up So Fergie is looking at three or four possible strikers

and hopes to have a striker wrapped up by next week?

Obviously Berbatov, Santa Cruz, Huntelaar and Benzema.

my mate keeps banging on about Santa Cruz being the one we should get - SSN says Sheepburn will let him go or 15m

Santa Cruz is probably the one that will happen - £15m would be a good deal.

Getting Saha back is like a new signing, so that narrows it down to three....

I still think the Berbatov deal is very much on.

That's what I think.

Huntelaar would be good.

Benzema a dream.

A wet dream for me.

Fergie pretty much said he is staying in the same article.

Realistic targets in order of preference:

1. Berba
2. Hunterlaar
3. Santa Cruz

I really don't think we're interested in anyone else. Villa, Henry, Eto'o just don't fit the bill of what we need and I don't see them as United players.

Benzema, as you say, is a pipe dream.

I think Fergie is trying to turn the screw on Levy. Spurs will sell, they just want more cash. United want him, they just won't pay £30m. The nearer we get to the deadline the more it becomes a game of chicken: Spurs risk being stuck with him and missing out on cash, United risk losing their only summer target. One will crack or both will compromise. Fergie's bleatings about having other options and being happy with the current crop is just a scare tactic.

I expect Berbatov to be in the squad to face Newcastle (Portsmouth at the latest). He's a long term target too. Fergie obviously admires him greatly. We rarely fail to get our man...especially one that the selling club is willing to sell.

We may be stuck in a little bit of a transfer catch 22 aswell. Potential Saha money could make the difference between Berba being here or not....but Saha won't be allowed to go unless we sign someone....but we can't sign someone until Saha money comes in...and so on. Spurs looking at Arshavin is another factor to.

I know this sounds arrogant, but I think we'll get Berbatov because we want him.

He fits the bill in terms of a target man. He's a good finisher, but a little immobile. There's better and cheaper options.

Yep, that too.

I only really want someone who has some physical presence and can play right up top. I'll be delighted if we get him mainly because it'll allow Rooney to play in 'the hole'. Enough is enough re Rooney, for me. The poor lad is too special to be sacrificing himself on the left and high up top.
