Default Berbatov facts

Few Berbafacts to celebrate his return to OT this evening, from the times;
  • Dimitar Berbatov scored only 1 PL goal for Manchester United against a team that finished in top 5 during his 4 seasons at the club.
  • 36 of his 49 PL goals in 4 seasons for United came against teams who finished the campaign in the bottom half.
  • Berbatov started only 26 of United's most high profile 68 games during his 4 seasons and never scored in CL knockout rounds.
  • 32 of Berbatov's 56 competitive goals for #MUFC came in games United won by at least a three goal margin.

Another player who played for both Fulham and Manchester United today called Dimitar Berbatov 'a strange player and person'.

Welcome back to Old Trafford Mitko, hope you get the reception you deserve bro.

So 13 of his goals came from only 26 starts out of a possible 68 against top opposition?

A goal every other game against the big boys is pretty damned good, is that what you are saying?

Perhaps SAF should have started him more often

Not top opposition, top half. Not all of those are 'high profile' as in CL knockouts,, top 5 fixtures, cup finals...

Dearie me...

He still got 1 in 2, tough to ask more than that, tough to score when you aren't on the pitch too

He was top scorer last time Utd won the league, despite losing his place in second half of the season, and perhaps if he had been used more in the run in last year, when Welbeck and Hernandez were both badly out of form, the end of the season would have been less traumatic.

7 goals in 5 league starts last season as well, and 27 in his last 29 league starts for the club

He shouldn't have been at the club in the first place.

Only mistake Fergie made was not getting rid in 2011.... Or simply buying him in the first place.

7 goals in 5 starts last season sounds cool on paper but, hattrick against wigan and brace against Blackburn both at home.

We had reached an 8 point gap with him barely playing, nobody was calling for him to play in the run in. The guy is allergic to the crunch time, he has got 1 goal in April/May for 4 seasons.

All the hattricks against shit teams and that 5 goal haul v Blackburn does that for you.

Berbatov cost £30m but that wasn't the only thing we lost, his mere presence blocked someone else being there, a van Persie forexample. Berbatov is easily Fergie's worst buy, probably the worst buy in our whole history.

Berbatov: 108 PL games 48 goals = Goal every other game

Tevez: 63 PL games 19 goals = Goal every 3rd game

2 of those seasons he barely played in the run in, 1 goal in April/May in 2 seasons sounds cooler.

Ultimately it did not work out, but he was hardly the Carroll style failure some make him out to be. I enjoyed watching him as a player but he stylistically was not suited to the way Utd wanted to play. He was in good goalscoring form in his last 2 seasons at the club to be fair to him, for all that he gets criticised for his goals being soft/cheap he carried the goalscoring burden in the first half of 2010/11 when Rooney was unfit, playing like Bebe and moaning about a new contract. Made a real contribution to that title win.

Bayern at Old Trafford in 2010 summed him up for me.

He was fully fit and we were in desperate need of a striker to step up. Rather than going with the £30m Berbatov, Fergie put his trust in a 25% fit Rooney.

We inevitably limped out of the tournament, when we should have probably gone on to win the trophy. If only Throb had been able to get a message to F@gie and teach him how to use Berbs.

I'm confused, how can a match he wasn't picked to play in sum him up

It's widely recognised as being a huge mistake by fergie, managing to £#%&! up both wazza and the CL in one swoop.

My conclusion on the berbatov saga is always a case of he was bought for the wrong reasons, for the wrong setup, at the wrong time and the wrong money.

But anyone who argues he is a bad footballer is utterly bonkers in my opinion
