Default When was it we last had a *genuine* candidate for World Player of the year in our team?

I don't include Becks in that. He was a very good player, but nowhere near the standard. Ryan Giggs was a great candidate at one point, but was a bit hampered by never playing in international tournaments. Keane? Great shout -in 2000 he was the best all round midfielder in the world easily, but shame Zidane and Ronaldo were also in form at the time.

I reckon Ronaldo will be world player of the year by the next Euro Championships.

Beckham finished second in the voting for World player of the year in 99. RVN must have been close the year he scored 44 goals.

When was the last time a player based in England won it? Henry has been unlucky not to win it.

Might have been in the team of the season, but don't quote me on that.

Which year has he deserved to win it? In which year would you say he was undeniably the best player at Utd, let alone in the whole football world?

Giggs has never been a candidate for the PFA or Footballer Writers' Player of the Year (sad but true) so he can hardly be a candidate for the world player of the year.

Keane should have won it during his time at United. Rooney will win it one day as well.

Nearly every year I have watched him play.
Forget your Cantonas and Keanes, Scholes has been £#%&!ing magnificent for United, one of the true, true greats

Far and away the best player we've produced through the youth ranks since George Best. I hope he wins the Footballer of the Year Award this year. He deserves it.

He's going to have to sort his touch and technique out first. He's gone backwards this year.

Ronaldo is the type of player than wins it, Rooney is not.

The way Waynes played all season, he'd be lucky to win third world player of the year.
