rio had a pop at 'jags' too

Quote:
Rio Ferdinand joined Shearer in criticising the defence, drawing particular attention to Phil Jagielka’s role in Uruguay’s winning goal. “It’s just a straight ball. The keeper has the ball in his hands and just kicks it up the pitch. Jagielka is in no-man’s land, he’s not attacking the ball and he’s not covering. You’ve either got to do one or the other,” he said. “If you’re caught in the middle, there’s no chance to recover. He leaves [Gary] Cahill in a bad predicament. Me personally, I’m dropping off and making sure there’s nothing between me and the goalkeeper.”

The same Redknapp that struggled in the Championship last season with the best squad.

Indeed. Even Cleverley is better than Gerrard.

He would get the team organised properly and make the team hard to beat, he is an excellent manager who excels in one off games, international football would be perfect for him.

They should go down the foreign road again, but this time instead of hiring the biggest name they can buy, actually look for someone with a plan: a hungry manager with a record of developing teams and players, with the balls to put his principles above media/player pressure.

Martinez would have been ideal last summer if he'd have been up for it. But that's the type of appointment they should make, and instead of #@&%! English managers moaning about it they should take a look at themselves and address why the country hasn't produced a top manager in decades.

He's far too friendly with the press to do it.

van Gaal would've been a decent choice.

He can be friendly with the press. But he sure as £#%&! wouldn't let them pick his side.

Hopefully Van Gaal will put sorting our £#%&!ing youth teams out high on his list of priorities.

Until the manager of the English national team puts the system ahead of pandering to so called "world class" players that the media think have to be in the same side then England will do nothing on the International stage

The best performance in Hodgson's reign was the win at Wembley against Brazil when England passed the ball really well, had great movement and fluidity but still provided good protection to the back 4
England played in a 433 formation that night with Gerrard in the holding role and two mobile short passers either side of him in Cleverley and Wilshere

That should have been the template for Hodgson to take into the world cup but instead he changed to a two man midfield to shoe horn both Sturridge and Rooney into the same side
He tried to continue with the 433 against Denmark in a friendly with Sturridge wide and Rooney central but Sturridge can't play wide and it didn't work

Hodgson should have stuck to the 433 system and dropped either Rooney or Sturridge but as ever the England manager put individual players ahead of the team
