I don't think we'll find a British replacement for him either. One thing that's always been said about Scholes is that he was very different to the average British player, and the way he plays has much more in common with some of the continental greats. I can't think of another British player that's looked as comfortable on the ball as he has, and his technique has always been peerless. I really think we have to look abroad if we want a similar style of player.
Spot on mate. I think Sneijder is a great shout. Steed Malbranque I've always thought is a very good player too. I was quite disappointed we didn't get him in the summer. Great vision, excellent technique and a wonderful passer of the ball.

Not that Barca would be likely to let him go.

That Diego lad from Werder Bremen is worth keeping an eye on, too. Although I do say that because I've just been watching him.

(Oh, and what Borsuk said about what Fuzz said. With an extra or two for good measure.)
Two good shouts. Iniesta is actually pushing Xavi out of the picture at Barca. Diego, at 21, is definitely a long-term option.

Gibson is the man.

Plus, he gets a few goals, is a big lad and can tackle.

Maybe in five years we'll be wondering how we'll replace Carrick + Gibson?

Erm, I don't think anyone was touting Gattuso as a Scholes replacement to be honest.

all cahill shares with scholes are the scoring side of their games.

I guess with the quality he has, his age and the fact that he's already playing in England - he'd be perfect.

Not going to happen though, is it?

Although if you believe the rumours Vieira almost came here in 2001.

Maybe not as Scholes' replacement but as a United player.
