Default So as I understand it, Scholes is being written off in some quarters, after 1 match.

A dreadful sate of affairs if you ask me. As I understand it, Scholes was pushed into the starting lineup half-fit on Sundee to protect our newer players from doing so and then played badly. I'd think some sympathy would be in order for his being put in this position. Still it's so much easier to just write him off as finished. I remember the same thing happening a coupla seasons ago, you were wrong then and you're wrong now. Scholes will be back as one of the PLs best midfielders, possibly as early as tonight and when he does I hope some of you are ashamed, though I doubt you know the meaning of the word.

It's not that he is written off, it is just that we now have Super Roger Hargreaves the free kick specialist and all round demi-god. He's worth 2 Royston Drenthes you know?

Hargreaves does take a good set-piece actually, took a lot for Bayern over the years, particularly those crossed in. Not sure what that has to do with Scholes

Apparently one bad game means you're finished and you must be dropped for the next game.

Having one of your best seasons the year before also means nothing.

At his age I think it's a bad idea to play him unless he's fully fit. I'd rather see younger players [play at 80% than him.

Don't think anyone is writing him off but we could all see the effect of him missing virtually the entire pre-season. He got caught in possession a few times and his passing was sometimes awry, which as you know Bedders, isn't him.

same was said when some quarters wrote off ruud as the person holding us back.

"ruud is our best striker since law..blah blah blah"

Oh some are definitely writing him off. As you say though his poor pre-season is the reason for his 1 bad match. Still you would've thought that after his brilliant season last year supporters of his own club would realise this rather than use 1 poor game to slaughter a true great. Hope he plays well tonight if selected, shut some idiots who just don't know better up.

Well with quality like that on the bench should he really be starting is the question.

Giggs and Schloes were both pants the back end of last season. were you not watching? nobody is basing it on 1 game or even 6. they are the so called experienced players but imo they have recently been our worst players. same happened with Keane, same will happen with them. nft.

He jsut had a bad game and didn't look fully fit.

I see no point in an inquest.

It's not like he was poor in an otherwise scintillating home performance either.

You could just as easily point the finger at Carrick - he was very poor. One of his worst in the shirt, but he's allowed to have an off day because he's human person.

Ronaldo was useless at the end of last season, along with Carrick at times amongst others. Fact is our squad was too small and they were obviously tired, singling out Scholes and Giggs in that circumstance is a perfect case of selective miopia uised to back up a point lacking real validity.

im not carricks biggest fan but he was good on sunday.

he has become abit more zippy around the park or maybe thats just relative in comparisom to his partner.

he is taking more control of games and its as if he is being asked by management to play further forward of the two. have you not noticed that...

the last time we did something confusing like that was 4-5-1 to accomadate an ageing player.

Oh come on, Vio. I think Carrick is teriffic, but he was poor on Sunday. He made some good runs in the first half, but his passing was way off by his high standards and some really poor pot shots. He just wasn't at the races.

It doesn't mean anything though. He just had a bad game.

Well it's ridiculous, Scholes who has had an injury in pre-season, is not fully fit, plays poorly and some take the opportunity to finish his careerm, it's unbelievable. I'd agree that he'll play less this season and that's only right but to suddenly decide after 90 minutes of the season, that's some sort of cut off pouint in his career is ridiculous beyond belief.
