Since Guardiola and Klopp both took over here's what they've spent.

City £510m
Liverpool £386m

All for a grand total of 2 trophies between them.

Since Mou took over he's spent £364m badly

Talk was it was either investing in the stadium or 'war-chest' this summer, window closes in two weeks so looks like it's neither.

Wrong thread but us. Work had gone in to cost up stadium redevelopment and when that was shelved it was claimed that there would be a bumper warchest.

We don’t need to be competing on the pitch. Woodward said so.

Also why improve the ground when you can charge as much as you want and fill it with Asian tourists? Woodward said that too (probably).

Shows how financially inflexible the club is. Probably still owes half the transfer fees it’s spent in the past 5 years. Any club making 100m profit a year shouldn’t have to make such choices. I don’t think we’re that far from being financially screwed.

Been of that opinion for a few years now. Apparent big fees for Pogba et al are a bit of a red herring. We’ve apparently paid over the odds so they’re on the never never. Its why we aren’t signing players that would actually be good for us and instead just sign what we can, where there is little competition, and hope something sticks, and we end up with the average or those at the end of their usefulness in most cases.

Nah. That's not because of the money. It's because we're run and managed by £#%&!wits.

Oh it’s poor use of the resources available to the club, nqat. Goes all the way back to Ferguson that. Cut your cloth accordingly. If you haven’t got the money to be shopping at the top end or competing with the financially doped clubs, work a bit harder and a bit smarter. Scout properly, get good relationships with other clubs rocking. There’s plenty of clubs coming up with gems and strong squads, remaining competitive without spending £90m on a single player.

Aren't most transfer fees accounted over the period of the players contract, that's how football finance works, especially since FFP.

We've been "on the brink of financial ruin" since the Glaziers took over according to some, while it's certainly true that the ownership means we can't use the full extent of our financial might, the idea that we're on our arse is £#%&!ing fantasy mid 2000's IMUSA propaganda.

Mourinho has now hit peak excuse, hamstrung from buying the player he wants, who no one can identify beyond the handy but limited Perisic and the limited but limited Willian by the penny pinching of owners who have bought him the two most expensive players in English football since he arrived.

yes all transfers seem to be a lump sum then 80% spread over the 4 year contract. Its why ffp didnt £#%&! PSG last season. They have 3 years rather than yearly.
