Why did guardiola feel the need to sign so many defenders in his two seasons in charge so far?

Its all Mourinho's fault, though.

Are we pretending Smalling isn’t the worst professional player we’ve ever seen on the ball now then? It must have been a while since our last game.

Jones should never be more than a back up centre back for any serious team, and our full backs are not actually full backs. Other than that we’re sorted.

Is this now just the general shit defenders thread?

He spent £60m on two young centre halves who need time to settle. If both of them end this next season with 10 games each you might have a point.

Apparently Jose has dropped his plans to sign a full back so he has enough funds to sign a centre.

Jacob Harry Maguire.

Dear lord...

Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't think he's as bad as a lot of you are making out. I certainly don't think the figures being thrown about represent value of any kind but as a defender he's not terrible. Pretty elegant on the ball, makes decent decisions, is brave, humble and willing to learn, carries the ball out from the back well, decent passing short or long. In fairness I think we could do a lot worse. He's no Raphael Varane, sure, but he's not the train wreck some are making him out to be.
