Yeah i'm sure Moyes had a proper in-depth knowledge of the Uruguayan U21 scene.

As pointed out in another thread, was on trial under Fergie and the deal set up before Fergie left. Doubt Moyes even knew who he was when he turned up for pre-season training

Maybe so, but he binned the lot when he got to OT because none of the players he was looking at were good enough I remember a quote from him about having to shop in a completely different market

Because Everton were skint. Bloke did most scouting journeys himself. Came to Utd and couldn't believe the change in infrastructure so tried to take us to his element

Thumbs up

Tbf Moyes has done well at Everton with defenders bought for peanuts who go on to be very good players Zidane said at real when he was loaned there he was his favourite defender

that's the article

"Smith operates from the recruitment room. Its contents are cherished and highly classified. They represent Everton's most valuable intellectual property. Moyes' entire transfer strategy is mapped out on a succession of whiteboards which cover all four walls. This is the visualisation of a principle, the distillation of a philosophy. It underlines the collegiate nature of his approach and the clinical brilliance of his management skills."

Up to 50 reports on a target huh? Just think, if he was still here, we might actually be buying some players this summer

This lad reminds me of Rafael. Fighter, up and down and not overawed. Only thing wrong about Rafa was his injuries. Hope Varela stays clear and we'll be fine with him and Darmian competing. Should get the Italian firing

also he seemed to get sent off at the wrong times in important games.

wee jimmy

Steve Round, Moyes' assistant, has an integral role in its compilation with the manager. The main strategy, which takes several hours to create, is distilled into a shorter, more accessible version for the players, featuring team shape, set-piece analysis and opposition goals. Round enters the transfer process after first-team coach Jimmy Lumsden has followed up leads sourced by the scouts, and sanctioned by chief scout Robbie Cooke. Again, the principle of collective responsibility applies.

Sums his transition from Everton to Utd up. There he had to make sure any deal was the right one. Not saying here he could just splash cash at anyone but he should have been less rigid.

Love a player who can improvise. The way he kept it in for the second was just awesome.

Definitely needed to take a chance or two. If he'd have just green-lit the deals rumoured to be set up for him (Garay, Matic, Thiago, Hames etc.) straight away and not signed Fellaini, he'd probably still be here..

If they hadn't worked out, he could always have distanced himself from the deals and sold them.
