For the older Fredsters

After losing 0-1 the year before to Southampton as hot favourites we returned as underdogs but beat the scousers 2-1 in the FA cup final and as a bonus preventing them winning the treble

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_FA_Cup_Final

This was back when winning the FA cup had the same buzz as winning th CL today(no kidding)

Finished 6th in the league

http://www.englishfootballleaguetabl.../f1976-77.html

39 years later we win the FA cup and finish 5th and the manager gets the sack(just shows how football has changed)

U.K. Top 40

Went to the match, then on to a party in Reading

Got home about 11am, got changed, straight out to Albert square for the homecoming

Then straight over to the electric circus to see the ramones supported by the talking heads

Probably the best weekend of my life

26 November – Southern Television broadcast interruption: Just after 5.10pm in the Southern Television ITV region, a hoaxer hijacks the sound of Independent Television News from the IBA transmitter at Hannington, Hampshire, and broadcasts a message claiming to be a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command. Thousands of viewers ring STV, ITN or the police for an explanation; the identity of the intruder is never confirmed.

Brilliant

Born 3 years after this but knew all about the game from books like Back Page United and Tommy Doc's book.

Can tell you who scored in 77 and 79, 83 and 85 and 90, but can barely remember winning it last season

Top day, first Trophy win I witnessed, amazing after the year before.

Here's the full game if you want it

My Aunt Dot no doubt still has the LP of the commentary

Was 6. Remember playing outside on a proper sunny day and coming in to watch it. Had to have the curtains closed to see the telly.

Earliest footie memory as a kid.

My uncles took me to town to see the bus and I just remember a sea of flags and a big bloke beside me had a full bass drum strapped to his chest and was pounding the hell out of it DOOM DOOM DOOM and I nearly wee'd with the thrill of it

The Green Man pub before the match was an experience too.

Can't have had any glasses left for the evening opening

Love threads like this.

Before my time, but always love seeing the Old Top Reds talking about it

You learn who all the old folk are on here too

Whiteside 85 was my first memory. Got the scousebusters DVD somewhere.

The kerfuffle that followed Kevin Morgan's sending off

OH! pleasant exercise of hope and joy!
For mighty were the auxiliars which then stood
upon our side, we who were strong in love!
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!--Oh! times,
