Had malaria, apparently 'over' it now...

Didier Drogba has been suffering from malaria, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed today.

The Ivory Coast striker has missed a number of games in recent weeks which were put down to a virus and was only fit enough to be a second half substitute against Liverpool on Sunday.

But today Ancelotti unveiled the truth about Drogba as he said: "Didier has had problems.

"He had a virus and lost power in training.

"We now know what he had was malaria. He was given some time off and came back with malaria.

"Now he's okay and will be back, immediately, in his best condition. He suffered because he was not 100 per cent but after the treatment he will be better.

yeah I was just casting a small aspersion over whether you just run it off as it appears he has done... thought it was slightly more serious than just missing a week or so

It's quite fashionable at the moment. Marlo will probably have it next week.

"We want to be the nearest to Chelsea just in case they do a Devon Loch, just in case they collapse.

"You never know, malaria might hit the camp! We’ve got to hope something like that happens."

It's certainly not as deadly as it used to be. Unfortunately.

Yeah but 48 hours? Our players have got it worse than that and they've not got anything as a"exotic".

Can't think of anywhere more exotic than Sunderlands dressing rooms

Yes it is.

It's a parasite, not a virus as Ancelotti kept saying. There is one very serious form of the disease and it still kills a hell of a lot of people. Drogba must have contracted one of the much more mild varieties.

But it was believe. Anyway a couple of other people wondered how it could be so mild, etc.
