Might be roped into coaching a kids team
Anyone know what the best book is for 8 to 11 year olds?

£#%&! the books mate, get the club to pay for your level 1 coaching badge and do your own thing.

If in any doubt drop uncle scholes a pm and i'll share my coaching expertise (generally just kick and run and the odd penner competition)

Don't bother with a book.

This isn't a bad site http://www.footy4kids.co.uk/

Level 1 coaching badge gives you lots of ideas and written resources too.

i think the bloke the coached Gary Speed did a good one. It was more about the positional aspect though

I'm not sure it's of much relevance to coaching youth, but Jonathan Wilson does some good articles on tactics. http://www.guardian.co.uk/profile/jonathanwilson he also wrote a book called Inverting the Pyramid.

I'd say to really work on their touch and movement as most English players struggle in those areas; get them to want the ball, not be afraid to keep it in tough areas.
