I think he's been a little more outspoken than the others in his preference for Portugal. Unlike Deco and Liedson, when Pepe made his decision he probably had a genuine chance of playing for Brazil, but always made it clear he wanted to play for Portugal. He's also piped up with a lot of 'revenge' talk ahead of today's game.
