Brian Moore can £#%&! off for inventing the "Never write off Liverpool" catchphrase that haunted me throughout the 80's.

In the 70s my dad taught Brian Moore's sons, and coached their 3rd year football team. He remembers him as a really nice bloke who knew £#%&!-all about football (and was willing to admit it too tbf to him)

Gillingham supporter IIRC, though I always thought he had a soft spot for Spurs out of the "big" teams.

motson (in his youth) and brian moore were probably the best imo.

tyldesley was great when we won in '99 but he's gone seriously downhill since. aside from the repugnant bertie jubilation, this is probably the most excruciating moment of live sports coverage i've ever heard. i genuinely struggle to listen to it.

Brian Moore was the best imho. His commentary for Arsenal's title win at Anfield was brilliant. No hyperbole, just to the point and captured the moment. Allowed you do drink it in.

When Giggs scored against Juventus in the champions league in 1998 his commentary was brilliant. "Oh i don't believe that."

That is one of my favourite goals ever the way he creates the space for the shot with the last 2 steps is wonderful body control.

Moore did calm hyperbole like no other.

I like the Geordie bloke on 5 live.

Sky's Cricket lot are in the main excellent - love Blowers on TMS too.

Doesn't surprise me. Was listening to him and Jimmy Greaves doing the '91 CWC against Barca recently and it was shocking coverage

"Now watch Koeman here - he's very good at these free-kick things."

From what I remember, Clive was much better on ITV initially. He's gone stale over the years, though.

And was it Barry Davies with "Sholshearer" or something like that?

Were there more ways to spell his name, or pronounce it?

He started losing it a bit in his later years, shouting "penalty!" instead of "goal!" - things like that

Yep. Called him Soul-shara.

David Pleat used to call Marcel Desailly 'Des-aye-aye'

Big Ron called him something altogether different.

The Radio 5 commentators are such a poor lot compared to the likes of Peter Jones and Brian Butler.

These days they don't commentate on the match instead they spout their unwanted opinions. Green obviously the worst but unfortunately it's not a one horse race.

I go the game so the only commentators I hear are the Reds around me.
