Default Rooney tonight

Not here to criticise him but his role genuinely confused me tonight. Seemed to be trying to just fill in gaps rather than playing a role.

I feel like he's become a utility player.

Would happily swap him for Stones in the summer.

If he had an afro and called Marouane Fellaini then he'd be on the bench.

The idiotic "captain shall always play" is holding us back. Imagine the relief the rest will get when this clogger isn't slowing things down to his pace, missing chances, first touch being a long ball, second a tackle.

He'll score on Sunday though. Always does against Arsenal.

I'm more concerned how he performs the function, than whatever the function is supposed to be. He is playing like he has no confidence he can still do the things he used to. His first touch has never been great, but I've never seen it this poor. He looks like a man who is lost and doesn't know what to do about it, but given the amount of football he has played and the teams he has been part of, I'd be shocked if he didn't know he is a passenger, a hindrance, to the development of this team right now. That's probably making it worse.

I honestly can't remember the last time Rooney had a good game

The amount of times in the 2nd half he £#%&!ed up and gave the ball back to Wolfsburg

It's getting serious now as he just doesn't justify his place in the side

LvG needs to make the hard call and drop Rooney soon or it will cost us

Having too many off games these days. Wouldn“t surprise me if Louis offloads at the end of this season.

Fact remains though, Rooney has been a fantastic servant to the club.

Van Gaal comes with the reputation of being all about the performance, with little regard for name. Until he drops Rooney to the bench I won't believe it. Maybe he thinks that what he adds in experience and presence makes up for poor performance, but I don't buy it.

He is awful at times....bebe level in some instances

I always presumed he'd decline at this age due to physical issues, but that isn't problem...he's just not very good anymore.

He'll do 2 or 3 decent things in a game but everything else isn't just average, it's awful.

Luckily LVG wont care who he is and will replace him in the summer.

The issue will be 2years left on that wage

Used to. I don't think he likes playing anywhere now. Could see him in the MLS next year.

You say that; he has to stop picking him first.

Amazed why LVG can sub Depay and McNair when they have a poor game yet keep a poor performing Rooney on for 90 mins.

It's just not fair I tell thee!

Excluding every other consideration from the equation except performance this season, our front four should be Young left, Mata right, Herrera ten, Martial nine. End of £#%&!ing story...
