Exotic and interesting. We’d developed a healthy hatred of Shearer by 1996.

Shearer is the best English ‘out and out striker’ in my lifetime and I think it goes down as the biggest nearly moment of transfers that he didn’t join peak United.

Shearer the first time I wasn’t overly bothered about.

Missing out in ‘96 gutted me though, just seeing one season of him and Cantona together.

Shearer in 1996 and I’m convinced we would have won a couple more EC’s.

We wouldn’t have lost the title in 1998 that’s for sure.

My heart sank at the sight of Batistuta applauding as Beckham was as sent of at the World Cup. I knew at that moment it would never happen
