It wont be him or Ronaldo that gets our winning goal. Infact how many goals against the big 4 have they scored between them in the last 2 years? Two for Rooney, three for Ronaldo? These occasions are tight as £#%&! and it'll inevitably be someone unexcpected grabbing the winner.
We've got Wesley Brown. |

Scholes is nailed on for the final, and even if Scholes wasn't, Fergie would play 3 in central midfield and I think he'd be right to do so. Chelsea's strongest area is in the middle of the pitch, we need to match them man for man in that area. Whoever wins that battle, will win the game. We are stronger in other areas, but the better 3 on that day, should see their team winning the cup. In Ballack and Essien they have two very imposing players. I would be delighted if Grant picked Essien to start at right back, because I think he would be a massive loss. There seems to be a lot about Makelele in the papers today, which suggests he may start with Ballack and Lampard. I don't buy into this 4-4-2 stuff that is constantly spouted. You pick your team to play the specific team you are playing in big games. We're not playing Bolton at home. |

I still think it could be the same team that deservedly won the game 2-0 at OT this season.
The only possible change is going to be not starting Giggs. This then leaves a slot for one of Park, Hargreaves, Nani, or Fletcher - probably Hargreaves imo. The way to beat Chelsea is obviously by moving their defence out of its comfort zone. Giggs is our best defence-splitter. He also has the cleverest movement - it was telling to watch the way Ronaldo moved off Giggs' lead to allow the space for the clincher at Wigan, for example. |

If we're going with a 4-3-3 then it surely picks itself:
VDS EVRA RIO VIDIC WES HARGREAVES CARRICK SCHOLES RONALDO TEVEZ ROONEY Anderson, Giggs & Park would be unlucky not to start, but would certainly be on the bench. Giggs in particular has been a great calming influence as a late'ish sub in recent games. Rooney was our best player against Chelsea in the FA Cup final last year...I expect a similar performance, but I agree that it's more likely the winning goal (for whichever side) will come from an unlikely hero....a header from a set piece. (Would be sweet to see Vidic bury a bullet header to win the £#%&!er late on!) |
