The result of the scan on his ribs is the difference between doing the double again or not.

As far as I'm concerned we have 2 'Can't Manage Without' players at United.
Rio & Wazza.
It'll be a disaster if Rio has broken his ribs.
I rate Evans highly, but Rio is the finest centre half in World football & is irreplaceable.

If they need a scan to check if it's broken then chances are it isn't.

Evans has stepped in admirably on isolated occasions, but I'd be more concerned that it's every game that Rio would miss. Let's just hope it's brusing, if not then let's hope he'll be patched up for Rome if we're there.

I'd say we have three can't-manage-without-players. No prizes for guessing the third.

He was prepared to come back on so it can't have been really excruciating pain. Hopefully just bruising.

I reckon he could play through a cracked rib. Couple of injections, leave him out of a couple of the easier games

You obviously want all your best players fit at the business end of the season, but we've managed fine without both at various times over the year already.

you reckon? is there not a severe risk of actually breaking it and making it worse?

Yep. Another blow to a cracked rib could be very nasty indeed.

that's what i thought. then you're in danger of puncturing a lung.

I think it's dangerous to play with a fractured rib due to the chance of it breaking and puncturing a lung. There's no major danger in playing with a badly bruised rib or one that's taken an impact.

The worst thing is if it's on the side you normally sleep on.

Classic Ferguson imo, he always does this when a player gets a knock.

He'll miss Boro but should be back for Arsenal

Yeah if it was really broken ribs we'd have heard by now. The x-ray would be enough usually and I'm sure the scan has been assessed already.

There can be a big difference between best individual and most important to the team.

I'd say over the course of the season thus far Vidic has been our most important player, but the fact that Rooney was not even in the final group considered for player of the year baffles me.

Vidic & Evans > Rio & Evans

It has the same dynamic of the Vidic/Rio partnership, i.e. one puts his head in the way of everything and the other one...doesn't.
