Can see this not happening. They told Mahrez he could leave last summer then refused bids for him. And again in January when city offered silly money. Maguire is only one year into a five year contract and they are cash rich. Very real chance they could just tell us to f*** off.

Jones and smalling did didn’t they? They’re just shit at it.

When teams sit deep or we play counter attack, we need a central defender who can do what maguire does. Just having a central defender who can pass the ball forwards to feet, instead of two yard sideways whilst the opposition recovers, would improve our attacking game tenfold. I dare say van gaal would have done far better with maguire in defence.
Most likely the truth with Rojo. One decent run of performances in 4 years, even more injury prone than Jones. Maguire seems to prefer left sided CB which has been one of the few reasons to keep Rojo. Maguire's ability to step forward, draw players to him, and then find a progressive pass is impressive, probably his most eye catching ability. Purely as a passer from deep I am not sure he is exceptional, compared to the likes of Alderweireld and VVD, though most likely better than what we have now that Blind is gone. There were moments for England against Colombia and Croatia when he dawdled on the ball and played sloppy passes that invited pressure, much better when he is moving forward. Will Mourinho allow him to do that? Maybe more in a 3 than a 2.

Bailly needs to rediscover his form from the middle of his first season, because ideally you would want to pair a new signing with him based on his potential top level. Apparently not looked great in pre-season(not watched any of it myself) but given the nature of it that can hardly be a surprise for any player.

Do they risk him getting exposed and his value dropping? Post WC is the opportunity to fleece teams. Some of the mistakes he made last year would not be forgotten so quickly when he moves to a big club.

That's not exactly a glowing reference pal I'm better on the ball than Smalling, no wum.

The prices quoted should be buying you a £#%&!ing Cannavaro or Chiellini in their prime, not the offspring of KD Lang and a £#%&!ing turnip.

It's slightly disturbing that the two of you's avatars have the same colour scheme, so these two quotes coming straight after each other made it come across like a rather abrupt change of opinion

It's very very clever by the justified and ancient one as he know says he clearly needs someone to take set pieces to put it on his noggin. Step forward Ivan the Croatian.

There’s no such thing as a good centre-back any more. They’re all much of a muchness. At least this @#%&!’ll weigh in with a few goals and kick off a bit.

What decade are you living in?

If it helps you feel better, pretend you’ve never seen him play and call him maguirinho.
