Were any Fredsters clamouring for the guy to be in the first team at the time?

Did his ACL back when it was a big issue IIRC.

Changed his tune somewhat, was full of praise for Fergie and United in his 'When the floodlights fade' thing for MUTV :£#%&!er:

That's not going to help

He's joined Darko's facebook photos group. I remember reading about him in those old yearbooks. Read them cover to cover several times

in april 1991 he suffered what would ultimately prove to be his career-ending knee injury.
It wasn’t the result of a horror tackle, or studs getting caught in the turf as he tried to turn, though. Instead, back in his own penalty area while fulfilling his defensive duties, maiorana elected to clear a dropping ball by attempting an elaborate scissor kick. As his leg swung forward to meet the ball, it crashed into an onrushing dwight yorke.

“that split-second,” he groans. “i should’ve headed it, but that’s the way i played football.”
q.e.d.

I remember an interview with him where he compared Fergie's attitude towards Lee Sharpe and himself as completely the opposite. Both were similar ages, joined Utd at the same time and flash players / characters but it was him who faced the brunt of it from Ferguson.

Fergie eventually got onto Sharpe's back and called time on him but only when injuries halted his progress and perhaps most importantly he was seen as a bad influence on a young, winning team. Fergie hadn't won anything at Utd when Maiorana was at the club so his approach naturally would be different I guess.

I remember a lot of fans were. Raw but was exciting to watch. The great hope before Giggs.

Bags of pace and talent but suddenly disappeared without a trace. Then Russell Beardsmore got a run in the team, we beat the vermin 3-1 on New Year's Day 89 and other young lads were getting talked about. We were just glad that Sharpe had taken over from Ralphie Milne down the left and whether it had been him or Maiorana, we weren't particularly bothered. Sharpe had an end product, he could cross a ball, so Maiorana got soon forgotten about.

Stories like this plus the Labour Dunblane connection really make me wonder how many voices there are just waiting to speak out about Ferguson but can't as they are dead.
