Been patchy, but when you can't threaten going forward at full back, you damn well better be a rock. He isn't.

If his intense cowardice would've handed Swansea an equaliser today - you'd know.

This is not Patrice Evra.

Yeah, even when he looked solid and confident, the attacking contribution was minimal.

It is true to say he deserves a little more patience, though. Italian international; Juve sniffing. He must have something about him.

Was excellent only 5 days ago but suddenly is 'one of the worst defenders'.

Definitely been rocked at times since coming to the league but nothing of major concern or out of sync with the rest of our team. When the team was set up tightly he didn't put a foot wrong. Tempo in England for defenders and especially fullbacks of his type is a whole different world to Italy.

Anyone talking already of selling is being irrational/rash.

Well now that those two abysmal excuses have been destroyed......his basic defending in 1v1 situations is atrocious. He stands off his man and either lets him get an easy cross in or just has a massive brainfart and fouls them.

Big transfer window for us coming up. Get good players in and we could finish top 4.....£#%&! about and fail and we'll probs finish about 7th.

As with all van Gaal's signings thus far, needs to be allowed to grow into the role and adapt to the requirements of the league, just as the whole team do.

Winning sides aren't thrown together in a couple of transfer windows, they are allowed to settle and grow into a team and it takes time.

Different leagues of course. I am not sure he is physically capable of dealing with the players he faces in the Pl week in week out. He is tenacious defensively, but perhaps a little weak and lacking in top end speed.

Have to give him time to adapt, Monreal at Arsenal looked to be facing similar problems when he first arrived but he has turned into one of the top full backs in the league without being among the elite athletes in that position.

What role?

He's a 26 year old itallian right back with dozens of premier league games under his belt. Plays like a 5 year old central defender from the Faroe Isles. Absolutely lost in his favoured position.

Defensively, he started the season well, but he's struggled for the past couple of months.

As Tibs says, it is his lack of contribution in an attacking sense which is more alarming and no doubt why he has fell down the pecking order. We can't really afford to have a full back who is limited going forward when you are playing Mata out wide right.

RB. Maybe even in a settled defence at some point perhaps even with something other than a Spanish traffic cone on his side for support, maybe...

Maybe if we looked at a bigger picture the fact the defence is weekly unsettle he doesn't always have a willing person infront of him who doubles back to help he's played both fullback positions well

Too early to be writing him off, but he looks a bit overawed by the spotlight of United. Looks a bit timid.

Would be typical of United to sign the only Italian in the history of the world with a dislike of confrontation.

Double trouble.

There's no need for us to accommodate either.

I £#%&!ing guarantee Van Gaal will offload the pair of them in the summer.
