Robbie Fowler. Probably injuries. Or drugs.

Van Persie had a fairly rapid decline too. A few good games here and there afterwards but 2013 was basically his last hurrah as a top player.

He never looked nearly as dangerous as he was before his injury towards the end of 09/10.

Still scored 30 odd goals in 11/12 though . The next season he wasn't good enough to be starting in the big games against Madrid

bit harsh. He's been blighted by injuries tbf, don't follow Spanish football really but has he really turned to shit overnight as Alexis has?

As I say, this is something I read, not something I’ve had verified. Although as Quayders points out, it’s something they’ve had form for in the past.
Yep. Was going to say exactly “as Quayders....” they did it with Owen and Fowler. Desperate.

Ozil.

Yeah, Webb, Birtles, Brazil... played in a disciplined role under top managers who did their thinking for them. As soon as they went to relatively disorganised sides it all fell apart. AFAIK, same thing happened to most Liverpool players back then, once they stepped out of the system they were ordinary. Some exceptions: Keggy...

Of course lots of it is down to injury and the loss of confidence that ensues. But the thread didn't say to exclude those cases. Torres was similar.

Anyone who suffers a loss of confidence because of injury is mentally weak and needs to get in the bin. @#%&!s

He was horrific last night. Whether that is Madrid fever or terminal decline remains to be seen.
