Has this actually been confirmed anywhere?

I guess what I'm really asking is, is there any chance of Neville G turning out tomorrow?

What Solskjaer leaving? He had a press conference there this afternoon. Starts on Jan 11th, will be at Utd until then. He expects an ex player to take his role, presumably Neville.

£#%&!in' 'ell I hope not. Surely Fergie must've come to the conclusion that his legs have gone after seeing him this season.

Well precisely.

However, it would be just like him to not be suffering with flu at this moment in time.

Not to worry everybody, hell be back in 25 years.

Quote:
"I've had conversations with the gaffer (Ferguson) in the last couple of weeks and he said it was a good step - and that was the go ahead for me. He encouraged me and they were the words I needed to hear.

"I'm looking forward to this challenge but it's massively hard to leave Manchester United. When I told the manager I almost had a tear in my eye.

"I've had an unbelievable time, I've played under him for 11 years and coached for three-and-a-half years, learned a hell of a lot and everyone at United has treated me fantastically.

"Anyone who's played for United would love to manage the club - but as the manager told me, you need experience and this is the first step for me. Maybe in 25 years, maybe that's the time."

Some great quotes, nicked from RN:

Quote:
on his Newcastle red card

"I stepped out of line and he put me in my place in front of everyone. I was called into his office next morning and had to pay a fine. He wanted us to win but he did not want us to cheat. He didn't want to be associated with that and he was right."

Martin Edwards tried to sell him

“You will understand how close I was to leaving Old Trafford when you know there is a fax, signed by Martin Edwards and signed by Alan Sugar, the clubs had agreed a fee and they were just waiting for my signature. I still have it in my possession. The gaffer called me into his office and said the clubs have agreed but I don’t want you to go. He said I’d be a big part of my squad. He also said the conversation would be between the two of us. If he had said I am sorry to see you go but all the best in your career, then I would have gone. But he wanted me to stay and so I didn’t sign the fax. Hopefully I have paid back the £5.5m that had been agreed with Spurs! When you walk out of his office and he says you will be part of his squad you walk out ten feet tall. I was as happy as Larry. It is strange to see that fax. The manager deserves the credit for all the success I have had. That was just one example of the kind of manager he is. There will be a lot of Sir Alex Ferguson I will take into management. He has transformed me into the professional I have been over the last 14 years. He has drip fed things into me all the time. But I have to be myself as well. I will be thinking what would the manager do in this situation but I cannot be him. We have different personalities.”

MEN Article

“I remember every single minute of what has happened to me at United. I remember it all from the day I arrived and when I first knew they were interested.

“I remember the guy at Old Trafford on the day I was going to sign because he gave me the pen I signed my contract with.

“He was giving me a guided tour of the club and he had no idea who I was. He asked me why I was there and I said I was there to sign a contract. So he gave me his pen and I signed it with that pen!

“I also remember the Molde owner, who is still the owner now, paying £70,000 to get a private jet, because the club’s was out of order, to fly me over to England so I could sign before Martin Edwards went on holiday.

“It is hard to leave United and Manchester. But I will still keep my house here. You never know. I might be better suited to player development than management. I might be calling up asking if I can start in the academy and work my way up again!”

Solskjaer was forced to retire in 2007 because of a knee injury but then cut his teeth successfully in coaching as he developed United’s young generation in the reserves.

But the adrenalin rush of a results-driven job and not just preparing youngsters for the seniors, plus the desire to settle his family back home in Norway persuaded him to end his Old Trafford ties.

But even with those two pulls if Fergie had advised him not to go back he’d have ditched the plan.

“It has been a massive decision of course. You don't want to leave Manchester United. As I have told the manager, it is a very hard place to say you are leaving,” Ole added.

“I spoke to the manager and said the family wants to go home and Molde want to appoint me as a manager, what do you think? He said 'go for it'. He has always said put your family first. With the job coming up at the same time, it is a very good challenge for me.

“I would have stayed here if this job had not come up. I wouldn't move away from United to go anywhere else. I wanted to go back home and work there. And if the manager had said he didn't think it was the right step for me at this time I would have stayed here. I have always had so much respect for the manager. Whatever he has said I have always listened.

“But he thought it was a good idea and there are not many times when he is wrong.

“Everyone is saying there will be loads of pressure on me because of my name. We will be expected to win the league in my first year. Next year is Molde's 100th anniversary and they have never won the league. But that is what I am going home for. I am hoping the next 100 years can start with me going back and help this team to win.

“If we get a couple of defeats people will be on my back. I am expecting that, especially because of my name. I wouldn't have gone back if I wasn't sure I could handle that. When I signed for United fourteen-and-a-half years ago I wouldn't have dreamt that I could be sitting here now talking to you about coaching and management after having the career I have had.

“I was sure I was going to stay away from football. I wasn't going to coach.

“Then you get injured. Everything you have taken for granted is taken away from you. It is what you enjoy. I realised then I wanted to stay in football.

“It is the adrenalin rush. Football is what I know and what I do and what I enjoy.

“Coaching the reserves is different. It is about developing players. But I need the pressure. I have missed that pressure. I have missed going to bed on a Friday night knowing the following day we were playing Liverpool or City. That is what you want. When you have played at the top that is what you want back again and is what you miss.

“When you go into any job you think long term. You think you are going to do a good job, be a success, and see where it takes me. If it means I do well and I am very happy there I might want to stay on. If I do really well and a tempting offer comes from England, the flight is quite cheap!”

Could that tempting offer come from Old Trafford in the future?

“Firstly I would love to play United in the Champions League with Molde. Wouldn’t that be the dream for me?” he grinned.

“Yes, you daydream about coming back here as the manager. Everyone who has played for United dreams about it. Me, Giggsy, Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes all of them. I am not ashamed of saying that if I enjoy management and that invitation came in 15 years time I would say yes.

“But the last weeks and years have shown you need experience and you need to be the best to be the manager at United. How the gaffer has handled the club and managed it is a fantastic example. He is the encyclopaedia of how to manage.

“When people talk about Manchester United in 50 years time they will always talk about Sir Alex Ferguson. I will probably pick up the phone once in a while and ask for advice.

“But I have never been one to bother him too much. He is always there for advice when needed. We have had a very good relationship. He has let me do my thing and we haven’t really had any quarrels.

“I have had the hairdryer. I think everyone has! I deserved it to be fair. We lost against Sheffield Wednesday away in the 1997-98 season and I got it there. It was because he wanted us to win and for me that is a great example.”

I'd love him to win the Norwegian league with Molde, get through the qualifiers and get put in United's CL group... just imagine the reception he'd get at OT
