Really good performance from the lad tonight, his ability was never in question because he'd shown it in flashes - the key was getting his head straight and getting some consistency.

Understandable really, young kid coming from a different country where they've elevated him to superstar status, huge fee, No 7 shirt, all the hype surrounding the move ... he was never going to live up to that.

LVG has handled him well IMO, he's took him out of the firing line to allow him to build up a bit of confidence, and hopefully after tonight he'll be more settled and can show what he's got a bit more often.

'Has to do it against top class opposition' What first season? Ronnie was protected and so should Depay. This kind of pressure is hindering his progression.

Excellent tonight, but concerning his only real standout performances were against these and Brugges. The Ronaldo comparison is quite ridiculous.

Hopefully, he will kick on.

A good game in a match we won 5-1. Bump this when he actually does something worthwhile,

Pretty sure getting us through to the next round of the Europa League counts as worthwhile

Lads got it all in his locker we just need to encourage and nurture his talent, he could be top quality in a year, or two. Some of his skills last night were brilliant, I hope this is a turning point for him, because we surely need him.

He did look top drawer last night, be interesting to see if he can pull some of those tricks out of his bag against someone with real pace like Bellerin.

Their RB last night:

Quote:
"Memphis is the best player I have ever faced. It was difficult to do anything about it when he plays like that.

"He is the best. He can do anything. He went inside, outside, turned me around and used his incredible pace to get past me.

'I've never been so close to crying after a match as I was today."
