As it turns out, I was actually over-simplifying things - they're fitting 2 pitches. An artificial one (for NFL) under a retractable grass one. Fortunately, they've given themselves bags of time...

what is behind these NFL pitches? I can understand they may want to stage a game or two of the bigger teams to come over for revenue purposes. But you've got the Fulham owner trying to buy Wembley for the same reason.

a north London west/east (American) football rivalry?
