He wanted to stay at Madrid and if not wanted to move to PSG but couldn't because of financial fair play.

Madrid have tried to turn Toni into a hard working ball playing centre midfielder just like they did with Modric. They have tried to get him to work in a 2 man midfield but Toni doesn't have the engine or the balls for it.

Dunno if it was quite that bad, but he struggles to do 90 minutes on a regular basis, too.
