Weren't they the first English club to put sponsors on their shirts? it's always United that get blamed for commercialising the game though

I think they've got their eye on a top four spot and this would probably help them.

Aim for the stars and you might just reach the moon. Seems they've decided to aim for the moon in the hope they might just reach the top of the stairs.

they cant compete with city and chelsea as it is, this will hand us an advantage over them but at the minute they are in danger of being caught up in a cluster of them, arsenal, spurs, everton, newcastle, etc all decent teams that could finish ahead of them.

This deal would give them an advantage over all of them, once they had that they can start to think about reeling the rest of us in.

No, Kettering were. Derby were the first League club to do it, but only in friendlies. The vermin were the first to wear sponsored shirts in competetive games.

I hope it doesn't happen - If you've made it to the PL you should have the same rights as anyone else. At least the UK rights anyway

The thing is when Fergie said that the premier league's TV rights were undervalued abroad and ALL clubs should make more money out of it he was a greedy old @#%&! but when the the bin dippers say their TV rights are undervalued abroad and they want to make more money for themselves then it is sound business practice and common sense.

it will bring about a european super league as the big 4 will be sooooo far out of reach of the rest of the PL that they will move closer and closer to the other super rich clubs in europe

top 4 or 5 will vote to join barca real milan inter psg bayern munich etc

the owners are mostly super rich billionaires these days who dont give a £#%&! about anything other than adding value to the asset .

one more nail in the coffin

if the top 4-6 clubs in the prem £#%&!ed off to a european super league, it would actually make the prem more exciting to watch, but the quality would obviously be inferior.

feel sorry for those of you that still go. it's gonna be a bugger getting the betty bus to anzhi makhachkala.

If it does happen, will it be remembered that it was Liverpool's idea when United are coining it in?

No, it will not.

It's worth remembering that it was the Liverpool chairmen who first brought up the idea of a break away League when the Football League was negotiating with ITV for the domestic rights in the late 80s. I think it was Greg Dyke who persuaded the other clubs it wouldn't work. Liverpool spent the next four years convincing the other 'Big Six' at the time (United, Arsenal, Spurs, City, Everton) of the merits of leaving the Football League, which is what happened in 1992.

If/when this happens, I'll piss myself laughing at the likes of Bolton, Stoke, West Ham etc as they all go bankrupt. They were told this is what would happen when we opposed the Glazer takeover and all we got in return were 'USA' chants. The crushing realisation that Manchester United have been effectively subsidising their shit clubs for years will probably be too much for most of the thick @#%&!s to take.

Sadly, I think an eventual European Super League is inevitable.

agreed comrade

the pl will become more competitive precisely because the big 4/5 will be out of it . Frankly its £#%&!ing boring now and requires the mega injection of a billionaire to break into the top 4 -

problem is soooo many people will consume the product and follow this blindly

thinking about it uefa financial fair play rules will make this happen as the big clubs cant get into as much debt now so they therefore must expand the revenue.

The big two in Spain regularly complain about the lack of competitiveness in their own League. The big Italian clubs need larger tv revenues. Their owners can no longer make up the difference in a world of Arab and Russian billionaires. Qatar owned PSG, Ajax, Benfica would gain hugely from such a move. Bayern Munich threaten to leave the utopia of the Bundesliga every couple of seasons. English clubs don't want to share a large chunk of tv revenues with smaller teams. It's all headed one way imo.

Any 'Super League' would also be controlled by the clubs (as the PL is now). This would allow the clubs to rack up huge debts as there'd obviously be no FFP aspect.

Most of us would probably keep watching too. On PPV 3D Suer HD naturally
