Default Our transfer policy under David Gill

Seems to have improved dramatically, bar the dragging out of the Berbatov transfer.

I didn't expect us to sign anyone until the summer, woke up today and we have signed those 2 kids.

Looking forward to see Tosic, quite a good goal return this season for a winger, 9 in 21 games. I expect he'll be used very sparingly this season though. The situation is somewhat different than when we bought Vidic and Evra.

Well, like it or not, it's also easier to do business quietly now we're off the stock exchange.

I do think the ridiculous carry on over almost every transfer at Chelsea since cueball went there compares unfavourably with Gill at the helm at OT.

day one, bang, tied up. just like the other summer with anderson, nani etc. very impressive.

fergie on the new lads
Quote:
Tosic - nicknamed Bambi because of his lean build - has appeared 12 times for his country and can play on either flank, having also starred for Serbia's Under-21 side.

Ferguson said: "We have been watching Tosic for over a year and in that time, he has become a regular in the Serbia national team.

"He's a winger and we like wide players here at Manchester United, so we are very hopeful that he will do well for us.

"He hasn't played since 10 December, however, so he will need some time to adjust to the speed of the game over here and get used to the training.

"But once he gets himself accustomed to the pace, then I am sure he will play a part for us this season. Ljajic is another good player with real quality and he will come over to Manchester in time for next season."

Fergie made me chuckle in the press conference. He said that completes our transfers for this year, then he quickly corrected himself and said 'Erm, i mean this season'. He refused to talk about Tevez though, he just said Gill is trying to deal with it.

Fergie though actually said Adem will be here next January, not in the summer.

Fergie knows Carlos is off like the rest of us. He wants Benzema.

love carlos tevez but the transfer fee being bandied about is excessive for a player who while is industrious and brave is not a prolific goal scorer, hate to see him leave but it looks a possibility.

two summers ago we signed big andy and nani early beacause spurs were sniffing around nani and nearly signed him.
hargreaves was a case if us being the only club in for him and tevez dragged on until deadline day near enough.

last summer berbatov dragged on all the way until midnight deadline day.

quiet and efficient

the only straightforward transfer we have had recently was anderson.

Just because there was people sniffing about Nani, you can't take away the fact that it was a realtively straight forward deal (for a club of our size). And Hargreaves would have only left Bayern for us.Tevez was always going to be difficult.

I'd take the Gill transfer style over Kenyons any day.Look at the players that @#%&! lost us.

Fergie also said he was happy with his squad and we wouldn't be signing anyone at all in this transfer window. There's no reason to assume he isn't lying now.

Dont really need anyone though. The only 'problem' positions in August were right back and left wing. Right back no longer an issue, and he's just bought a left winger.

We could do with a top class central midfielder with a bit of presence and goal scoring threat and a Saha like striker (playing style, not injury record), but you can't have everything, I suppose.

A shit hot 'keeper would be helpful too, to take over from Edwin and not be injured.

well, the serbian lads were already more or less sorted. the only other thing he mentioned was sorting out the tevez loan and possibly bringing back a couple of loanees. anyone know if the campbell loan is season-long?

Yes, but he can be recalled in January should we so desire.

the three deals mentioned that dragged and dragged were as a result of the selling club's bravado and/or contractual anomolies

the media made a big £#%&!ing meal of all three deals true enough

but United's position on each deal was clear right from the start and none of the selling clubs ever seriously suggested any wrong practice

did anyone ever seriously doubt that any of the 3 players was going to end up joining United?

of course not.

so if the deals dragged and the media made a big deal of it then the transfer was hardly smooth and clinical.
