The Great Dane was a more exciting 'keeper, VDS the personification of calm. Both magnificent, but the game is entertaining, so Schmeichel for me - I'm not sure if you can say he pioneered the art of great distribution, others can say if there were 'keepers before him who bowled it out to the halfway line to start attacks so regularly, but he combined that with being exceptional one on one & making saves he had no right to make... the Banksesque Rapid Vienna is still one of the few moments you get seeing a 'keeper.

We're fortunate to have had two of the finest, & I have high hopes the boy De Gea will get there in time (years... & years............ but he has possibly 20 of them available ffs ).

Schmeichel needs filing along side Hughes.

knocking aside personality and everything, and going solely on ability and what they did for us id go for scmeichel.

He was my hero growing up so that sways it in his way for me. i remember growing up absolutely adoring the man.

Think it was the brondby manager one time said in his press conference before the game that he'd told his team not to bother shooting and to hold out for a draw because it was impossible to score against big pete.

At the time he was obviously being sarky but me being a young fella, i thought to myself, he's right. you just cant score on schmeichel, unless it was a defenders mistake or an own goal.

Some of the saves he pulled off were absolutely ridiculous,

and then you have the countless double and treble saves.

Think i remember atkinson commentatin once, "save by schmeichel, and another, and a third, ohhh theres just no way past the big man"

For which i despise the @#%&!,let alone how much my impression changed of him after i read his book, or how every now and again he refers to united as "us". The @#%&! is anything but a red,and if i was picking my favourite united keeper it would be vds. But the question was, putting all that shite aside....

Both on a par in terms of being great United goalkeepers.

VDS edges it for me because the other is a right @#%&!.

£#%&! the city thing - I still regard Law as the king regadless of that backheel celebrations or not.

Schmeichel's character contributed a lot to the aura of the team that still gets in opponents heads today.

That £#%&!ing save from Bergkamps pen in 99 triggered the treble for me.
